Questions to ask the Technical Screen Manufacturer before Purchasing?

In this article, we’ll go through six critical questions to ask at the start of your product development process to assist you to choose the right technical screen manufacturer for your next project.

1) What is the Device’s Intended Purpose?

The first step is to establish the device’s purpose, as this will determine which touchscreens are appropriate. Will your display, for example, be used in a military application where it may be subjected to extreme conditions, or will it be utilized in an affordable toy where durability isn’t a major concern? In both cases, screen technologies with differing functionality, durability, input registration, and cost would be required. The following stage is to determine which features are required after you’ve narrowed down the display’s intended application.

2) What are the Necessary Touch Features?

Will consumers be able to pick single inputs with just one finger on your device? If that’s the case, a basic 4-wire resistive touchscreen could be an excellent choice, as its simple design manages this without adding a lot of money. If users need to zoom, scroll, or activate functions with several touchpoints, screens with multi-touch functionality, such as a projected capacitive (PCAP) or resistive multi-touch screen, will be the best option (RMTS).

3) What Method will be used to Trigger the Touchscreen?

Technical Screen Manufacturer make the manufacturing in various methods that touchscreens register inputs, the method by which the screen will be triggered is critical. Will the user be touching the screen with gloves or another device (such as a pencil or stylus)? If that’s the case, certain touchscreens might be required to register those inputs. The sensitivity of a projected capacitive touchscreen can be changed to recognize specific styluses and gloves, but the object must be able to disrupt the capacitive field.

4) What kind of setting will the Touchscreen be used in?

Another important element to consider is the location of the touchscreen. Will it be cleaned with strong chemicals in a medical setting? Will it be utilized in an industrial setting where it is likely to be subjected to repetitive impacts? PCAP technology is ideal if durability or cleanability are important considerations, as damage to the cover glass has no effect on its ability to correctly register inputs. Resistive screens may meet performance requirements in milder conditions without adding to the expense.

5) How much is it going to cost?

While the cost of PCAP touchscreens is decreasing as the technology gets more widely used, resistive touchscreens are still the less expensive option. If you’re searching for a technical screen manufacturer where you can find touchscreen for a basic toy, game, or other low-cost application, anything more complicated than a simple 4-wire resistive touchscreen may be overkill. A projected capacitive screen, on the other hand, may be worth the extra expense for a computer, smartphone, or other pricey application that requires a high-end look and feel.

6) What is the maximum number of actuations that the touchscreen can handle?

The number of actuations that a touchscreen can handle varies depending on the design. A 4-wire or 8-wire resistive touchscreen may be best for a device that only needs to be accurate for a few thousand actuations, while a 5-wire touchscreen is better if the device will be used frequently. A projected capacitive screen, on the other hand, would be great for a display that needs to handle millions of actuations because it can keep its accuracy through practically infinite inputs.

While these questions are a good place to start, there are many more things to consider when choosing the best technical screen manufacturer.
